How You Can Help

URGENT
Due to a wind event we lost a three sided horse shed that is shelter to several mares during bad weather.  If you can help out, or have a building you would like to donate, please contact us.

It takes me days to work up the guts to go to auctions.  I can't eat and I sleep little, if at all when I get home. I just can't understand how people can take a family horse and just drop it in the meat line for those last few bucks.  Don't they know the horror and misery these horses face?  Do they care? I know some do, but some really don't. To them horses are expendable and there are always more where they came from.  To me I see terror, abandonment, pain, sorrow, confusion and most know they are going to die.

How do I afford this. I don't!!  I just make do.  Donations help. People have been very kind, but it never seems to be enough and there are so many good horses going to a horrible fate.  It is not all for dog food.  The bigger, muscular horses go higher as there is more meat on them for the custom butcher shops - horse meat is considered a delicacy by some.  The thin, weak, young and old go to dog food. The problem is the "killers" have unlimited funds to buy what ever they want.  It must take a special "heartless" kind of person to take these beautiful animals, load them on overcrowded truck, ship them with no food and water to a killing factory where many have to be pulled from the trucks with chains, due to broken legs or weakness.  Many arrive dead, they couldn't take the journey.  Please don't tell me there is a need for this to thin out the weak, sick etc.  I don't buy it.  Every time one of my rescues puts its head on my shoulder, or I see that spark of life come back into those eyes, I know it is worth it.  These horses do not forget they were rescued, especially the starved and abused ones.  The love they give back is unbelievable.

Why do I do this?  Purely for the love of it. There is nothing so satisfying as saving a throw-away animal.  I will, eventually, be adopting out some of my rescues. The criteria for  adoption will be tough. They do learn to love and trust again, and I don't want them to be let down again. I have turned down good money for horses that I knew would be headed for an inappropriate home. The adoption fees will be minimal, mostly to help support other adoptions and the special needs horses that I have now.  Starved horses eat a lot to make up for lost time and need special nutritional supplements.

If you would be interested in adopting a horse or in donating hay, feed, or other items  (see our Wish List),  please feel free to contact me.

I will be adding more  pictures of our rescues so you can follow them as the progress.

Always remember, if you see horse abuse, speak up. The animals can not speak for themselves.  If you can't or are afraid to, please contact me with the information.

Please use Good Search for  your search engine.  A small donation is made to our organization each time you click and use Good Search.  A nice way to donate and still find everything on the internet.

SEEKING  GUARDIAN ANGELS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS HORSES.
A SMALL DONATION COULD BE PRICELESS FOR A HORSE IN NEED

A Guardian Angel, sends a monthly donation that will be spent solely on the special  needs horse of their choice, or it can be applied to the horse with the biggest need.

We have Angels, who have paid for vet care, special blankets, hoof care or special feeds.  If you would be interested in becoming a Guardian Angel, please contact us.  Remember any donation is a tax deduction.

Some of the special needs horses are:

SHEZA

Sheza requires surgery to have her left eye removed and a growth removed from her ear.  She is a gentle and loving animal, whose injuries resulted from a tragic accident.

AMBER

Sparkey's mom, Amber, a young filly, saved from slaughter.  Her left eye is clouding and weeping.  She has been to the vet, but it is getting worse and may have to be removed.  She needs to go back for additional test to see what is causing the problem.

Of course, all our babies can use an Angel to help with vaccinations and farrier.  Here is Mav, Rose and FOBe with Sally on the Left and Sacajawea on the right.

Mom (Amber) and Sparkey  both rescued from slaughter.  Mom, Amber is suffering from an eye problem, that will need additional treatment.   Sparkey  has recovered nicely from his multiple surgeries, but needs lots of good yummies to help him grow.   Sparkey who was suffering from a double hernia and abdomen that hadn't closed, has made a great recovery and is almost the size of his mom, Amber.   Since he has such thick, naturally wavy hair, he is not too willing to part with it.

Foster Homes For Special Horses......

From time to time we will allow the fostering of certain of our rescues. Fostering allows a concerned horse lover to help meet the monthly needs of one of our rescues without having to provide the physical day-to-day help these horses need.  This will enable a compassionate person who may not have the time or facilities to still play an active role in the rescue & rehabilitation of one of our horses.
